Build Me Up Buttercup

ranunculus asiaticus or the persian buttercup is a commonly used species of the ranunculaceae family. a luxurious addition to any floral arrangement, these sweet little things can be found on bridal bouquets and table centrepieces. a late spring to early summer bloom, you can get them in various hues of white, yellow, pink, orange and pink!

i can stare at them all day. anyways, in our bridal bouquet below, these white persian buttercups were grouped with freesias and peonies (both white and pink).

charges for bridal bouquets begin at S$150
pricing for other floral arrangements can be found on our website

Wedding at Street 81

situated next to a reservoir, our decor was susceptible to strong winds of probably Force 9! there was a storm the night prior to the wedding day but luckily no permanent or serious damage was sustained. the pictures below were taken the night before so excuse the jaundice-like lighting, although i tried my best to reduce this via photoshop.

table centrepieces featured a simple and lush arrangement of baby's breath while orchids and palm leaves were used for the buffet area. silver ornaments, wooden chests and glass lanterns were our chosen props.

anyhow the bride and groom looked beautiful in their moss green songket.

Anna Wintour

before i post the remaining pictures of this weekend's wedding, please entertain or educate yourself by watching Anna's interview on 60 minutes. a peek behind those shades framed by that ever perfect hair -

Taj Inspired

creating a 'maharaja' or 'taj mahal' inspired wedding theme, our choice of materials and props included those possessing rich textures and intricate motifs. tassels, plumes and coned-shaped pines were also added to enhance the setting. pictures of table settings and flowers will be up next.

Forever Beautiful

photo-journalistic photography is all the rage these days. it easily captures the emotions and memorable moments rather than people which we commonly find in wedding albums of the past. apart from immortalizing your wedding event à la documentaries, there are other types of wedding photography for couples to consider, formal photography - portraits, the stuff your grandmother may want to frame and hang on her bedroom wall and/or artistic photography - those retro/vintage poses or fashionista-ish shots and the likes which sometimes borders CHEESY if you hire a less talented photographer.

anyhow, Max Wanger (blog | website) provides great artistic photography producing vintage inspired shots. below are images from 100 Layer Cake. i have to admit though that the bride's hairstyle caught my attention first!

while there are growing numbers of wedding photojournalists in singapore, do any of you know of any talented artistic photographers here? so far most i've seen lean closer towards cheesy than say...cool :(

Lovely Layers

my latest addition to 'Wedding Resources' - 100 Layer Cake is a wedding resource site (blog) that posts many beautiful pictures and wedding ideas. i'm currently in love with the whole site's design (the typography choice and all, very martha) plus their own unique version of an inspiration board. a good daily read for sure and i can't wait for them to launch their website!

A Black Day for Stationery

The company, founded 80-years ago, famous for providing New York’s social set and fashion glitterati with some of the world’s most beautiful social papers, marks the end of an era in New York social history.

MRS JOHN L. STRONG has closed down. who would have thought? first it was Charlotte Moss (her famous brick & mortar i'm referring to) and now Mrs Strong! i have to strike two destinations off my 'places to visit in NYC' list since the financial meltdown.

Mrs. John L. Strong has long been the purveyor of exquisite, hand-engraved stationery, diaries, and journals, made from the company’s special formula papers...Mrs. Strong continued to honor its old world traditions of craftsmanship while creating a whole new range of entertaining and gift products in recent years.

the great depression indeed. read more here.

Floral Preparations

behind the scenes at our floral workshop

the peonies were mere buds yesterday when they arrived but blossomed beautifully overnight! anyhow our 'ice cream cone' arrangement has been modified for the wedding this weekend. we're going slightly larger to create a better impact since the event will be held in a hall with a soaring ceiling. as of now we've got the bridal and buffet arrangements to go + some hantaran items. and of course packing!

Do You See The Light?

browsing through my archive of saved images, i came across these lovely events. it's unfortunate the wonders of smart lighting aren't exploited in event design here. extra costs are incurred for sure (this probably, a chief reason) but for the magical ambience it's capable of creating, don't you think it's worth the effort (and money)? haha =)
