The Napoleon Chair

the world wonders what Kate oops, Catherine Middleton will be wearing later today for her day of triumph...(am i the only one here who feels she enrolled into St. Andrews to make this day come true?!) haha okay cynicism aside - i'm really wondering how the Buckingham team will create a no-less-than-spectacular wedding during a time when Britain is cutting public spending and shedding jobs...

anyways, TWC will ride on the royal wedding fever bandwagon and introduce our very new set of event chairs available for rent! what a perfect time to unveil the chair more commonly sat on at European royal weddings and White House events. The Napoleon chair was unofficially launched i would say at my sister's wedding about 2 weekend's ago. Below is a snapshot of the chair (and wedding)! The very first in Singapore i believe!

it is always refreshing to do something different. we get many requests from clients to do garden themed weddings since we went into business. over the years we worked with the classic green/white wedding palette and then along the way desperately injected some colors and created summer garden inspired weddings instead! it gets boring (from a design perspective) as you can tell so this time around, we decided to get back to basics and go minimalist.

the eventual look was clean and simple. but the real designers among us would know that the simplest looking things are always the hardest to execute! and thus i called this wedding Operation Flower Power.

we effectively wiped out all button mum supplies that weekend i guess?? have a good weekend everyone ;)

March Informational Session: Favour Bar

thanks for all who came to our info session held earlier last month. this time around guests had the opportunity to take a close look at our favour bar. we featured a couple of desserts and candies neatly designed and packaged in browns and blues!

new frontiers for sure, this was the furthest we ever had to travel for an event set up! but anyways, here are some highlights of an event that took place in early january. apart from the usual design services, we had the chance to set up a table featuring wedding gifts, good fun no less.

Salmon Not Just Good on Sushi

recall the salmon linens we newly introduced back in this post? well we were thrilled to get to use them again while designing a wedding last December! salmon or as some may consider - peachy, is highly underrated or tragically utilized (confession: i do associate similar hues to hansaplast - so i don't blame people for not giving it a chance! haha). naturally we were itching to finally bring out the potential this color possessed by pairing it with contrasting shades of powder blue, teal, fushia and purple!

i'll post up more pictures of this event once i get through all your emails! and why are we already in mid-month january? time flies way too fast! happy monday anyways :)

its that time of the year when we look back and look ahead - january, the first month of the year named after the roman god of beginnings and endings, janus. as much as its uplifting to look back at the highlights of the past year while brushing away the disappointments (quickly as though they never happened!), looking ahead has always been a more enlightening experience. only because there is still room for optimism, hope and grand expectations (if you get overboard while penning your resolutions). looking back on the other hand seems synonymous with regrets for me anyways - so facing forward; here are my plans for TWC this 2011.

1. A new website for TWC - i have designed this for quite some time now and have yet to book an appointment with my web developer. it's going to display more pictures than all our previous websites (yes, i gave in to people's request ahaha) and it will feature our updated TWC logo.

2. TWC Publications - A bunch of downloadable stuff for brides, party planners and random people who stumble upon our blog. whoever you are i hope it benefits you in someway or another!

3. TWC Shop - we are the midst of renovations! how it will look, feel etc will be a surprise, even to us. and i can't wait to host our opening party whee!

4. TWC "New Product" - this might be launched towards the midyear or 3rd quarter of 2011. like all our product/service we'll decide to unveil it when the time is right! BOO, be surprised!

now i can only wish/hope/pray/beg for projects that will stretch our creative limits and breathe new life into our design aesthetic! something along those lines at least because i get bored easily and maybe this is why i have 2 jobs :|

so anyway, thank you all readers for visiting and reading our modest blog. it feels great to know how our work has inspired you in designing your party/wedding/celebration. i love seeing how pictures of our work make their way to your inspiration boards and eventually your event ;)

2011 Color Trends

it's the eve of new year's eve and boy am i excited for some fireworks! for those drafting their 2011 resolutions, all the best, my advice - have zilch expectations, haha, you will hardly disappoint yourself this way!

for brides planning your wedding this year and clueless as to what concept/design to choose, look no further than a simple colour chart. when i ask prospective clients how they envision they're wedding to look like, most think hard to provide a concept i.e. vintage, french, retro etc. STOP. you don't always need to choose a design concept. try picking your favourite colours out of a colour chart. this is an easy and very productive way to get the 'ball rolling'.

above are some colour trends of the fashion world this spring 2011. a combination of these would make a dashing wedding palette! for more inspiration, do visit PANTONE. the colour oracle of our times!

Wedding at Hort Park

our first event at Hort Park - it was stressful! okay besides the fact that we had the Queenstown wedding on the same weekend, logistical arrangements were really tight for this one. set up could only begin the morning of the event day and we had more or less 3hrs to get everything up. and did i mention 3 people from our crew got struck by food poisoning? and i nursing a flu at the same time?

i didn't manage to snap many pictures as a result. in any case, liaising with venue personnel and caterers, at least i know what to expect at our next event here!

the dais - our wisteria trees against a green backdrop this time around. we added floral flamingoes and floor lanterns alongside the bridal chair. the pinks and greens were sweet together!

a decorated white parasol greeted guests at the reception area - pity i missed out our massive (and i really do mean BIG) hydrangea arrangement we placed here. we had fantastic stocks of hydrangeas that weekend and i believe the arrangement was 5 times the size of my head!

The Office

our last two events of the year just took place this weekend and i'm so glad we have a 2 weekend 'rest' before we start 2011 rolling! just doing some math and i realised 2011 will mark the start of our 7th year in business!

if you are not aware already, we have been running TWC on a part time basis and technically still are since we're all holdings our respective day jobs!

but anyways, we'll be using this two week event break to do some serious clean up of our office/shop. we have set ambitious targets to get it cleared up on time for our first informational session of 2011; so look out for that sometime around February.

in the meantime, we'd like to thank the clients we served this year! it's been awesome creating new designs and implementing new ideas into our work :)

Wedding at Queenstown

the last time we did a similar wedding was quite some time back like HERE! so it was nice to bring out past designs we worked with and build them all up again at a different venue. i really can't wait for us to finish off our last event of the year and then rest for at least a second! then again, we'd probably find ourselves 'working' to get the shop ready! enjoy the pics!

Wedding at Bedok Reservoir

two weekends ago, we set up a wedding reception at bedok reservoir. our client was fond of a tiffany inspired color palette, so we finally chose to work with those below. the dais was simple, predominantly white - we worked to contrast different textures like glittery material, feathers, wooden oriental lanterns and rattan.

the event venue was mostly filled with large lanterns in turquoise blue and white.

Lotteries & Peonies

two years ago, we were generously gifted a few peony buds by a gardener before we drove to another town while holidaying. we dumped it in a small cup of water and by the time we reached our next hotel, it bloomed so big it covered my face. in singapore, receiving peony buds is like receiving a lottery ticket. the odds of that peony blooming and that ticket winning the lottery are the same.

so last weekend, we struck lottery. it felt that way anyway. i'm still clueless as to how to make peony buds bloom all the time but to prolong the life of imported flowers, it has to be in an air-conditioned environment 24/7. its been a week here at my apartment with all the flowers bought last week and they are still in bloom.

Roadblock

we finally moved into our new home ;) now believe it or not, we have zilch ideas (sort of) on how to conceptualize our shop/office space. i think just looking for the perfect place was mentally exhausting already.

just wondering, what would you expect a TWC shop to look like? do leave a comment - i'm really curious to know what our readers think.

in other news: pictures of our wedding last weekend will be up soon but probably next week after we finish moving into the shop space and completing 2 wedding projects this weekend. i can't wait for the year end break!!! 2010 has unveiled many surprises and unexpected changes, and i need to rest now.

Christmas Promotion from Wonderland

it was amazing to discover Wonderland - finally we have a party & event rental company here in Singapore! well we're always sort of envious of wedding planners/event designers from the USA due to their endless supply of the most amazing props, glassware, serveware and what not! due to the absence of such companies here, vendors like us have to stock up on props etc, which i personally feel isn't cost effective for the whole industry and customers alike.

so luckily for Melissa, who is Chiavari-crazy (!), we and YOU have a range of Chiavari chairs in more than one color to consider for our events! i believe she is looking to bring in more colours as well as other event props!

firstly, i'm very much happy to be sitting here and blogging because that only means i survived my first ever run!!! after an exercise hiatus of six years (yes, i kid you not), i finally decided to do something that would stretch my physical limits. trust me i was freaking out having not trained at all due to the lack of time or more so, lack of willpower prior to the run but i surprised myself by running for about 5km!

now knowing i will ache for the next 10 days, let me just share with you a rockin' find. can you guess what these are?

Wedding at The Arts House (Part Three)

i decided to compress all the other remaining parts of the event into this post! apart from the chamber and blue room, we dressed the Living Room and Gallery as well. these 2 spaces were used as guest seating areas. we also designed a favour table filled with lace-printed eggs.

Living Room: gold leave garlands similar to those placed in the chamber acted as pullbacks for drapes in the Living Room

so that wraps up our arts house wedding. it was exciting to dress up a couple of rooms in a variety of styles using a common color palette. congratulations to raihan and sofia once again!

Wedding at The Arts House (Part Two)

we move on to the next room! the three remaining rooms at the arts house were used to seat guests. while discussing ideas with our client, they mentioned the blue room and the gallery were to reflect the design preferences of the bride and groom respectively. so here's how we dressed the blue room. the blue setting complemented by large twig trees and a combination of various white florals were beautifully highlighted by the natural light shining through large windows around the side of the room.

Wedding at The Arts House (Part One)

it would have been way more convenient to dump all the photos into a single post but i realised each room we dressed had its own style. unlike most weddings, this event took place on the second level of the arts house. 4 rooms were used in total and we were tasked to design all of them in our client's chosen color palette comprising of white and blues. however each room must be made to have its own 'character' - naturally reflecting the style of the bride and groom themselves. thus, placing them side by side in one post would not serve to highlight the its individual uniqueness!

the chamber i.e. where our ministers used to sit and pass the law, was used as the solemnisation area. we erected a dais and added some embellishments around the area.

Wedding at Sembawang

it was more like a wedding in the middle of the forest! the location takes you away from the city's bustle and being remote as it is conjures up feelings of old kampong life. not that i had any first hand experience, but sure feels that way!

months ago our client requested not only a dessert bar but a conceptualised buffet area as they were only expecting 100 guests. being curious as we are, we agreed! why not?! we weren't cooking anyways and began sourcing for vendors to provide some mains and appetisers etc.

so here we present to you our first conceptualised buffet area comprising of mains/appetisers, desserts and drinks!

a long winding road lined with trees led the way to this remote mosque...

menu for the day - these were the complex dishes we had to handle!

a string of flags made from kain pelikat created the backdrop to the main buffet line

the exciting part of the project was not so much of the dessert bar but really incorporating traditional desserts into the set up!

agar-agar gudir, wajek in banana leaf cones, putri salat, pulut and mini epok-epoks served on a wooden tier. we requested for these desserts to be made in pinks for obvious reasons. haha.

gado-gado presented in clear glass serveware, our design aimed to bring out the textures presented by all the ingredients. we wanted to bring out a very raw, back to basics layout but a sophisticated finish overall for the buffet area so food were placed in home-style serveware as opposed to standard chafing dishes.

then we added a tiny table of the typical modern day desserts for the young folk!

our final 'station' - the drinks! true to kampong style, we offered guests some chilled bandung (a concoction of rose syrup and milk for those unaware). instead of the usual drink dispensers we thought serving bandung in colorful glass bottles chilled in tin buckets was more old-school...

tea and coffee were available too! hot water was dispensed from old-fashioned flasks!

it was an eye opening first experience doing a whole buffet set up. you have to give it up to caterers who do this everyday! but leaving you now with the pictures above would be telling you just half the story of this event.

half way through our client's solemnization event, rain clouds gathered and threatened to pour. we were afterall right smack in a water catchment area of singapore!!! so in 15-20 mins or so we relocated the entire buffet area indoors. it would have not been possible without the help of kind people at Kasai Sayang! so thanks guys!!!

if you're wondering whether this is a new service, well not really. only by special request and special circumstances. we strongly believe in doing new things...but at the core of this company, we want to do things well foremost! catering is a whole new realm, very much different from desserts which is so easy peasy compared to handling main courses etc.

and also if you're wondering why pink turns up often on our blog (i just realised this scrolling through recent posts!), i assure you its not a twc favourite color, we don't have favourites here and are more than eager to work with blue, yellow, red, orange, black, green or whatever new hue you have in mind. (and secretly i may just be begging clients to choose other colors, pretty please!)

it's the weekend again - how time flies really. our thursday event survived some weather battles but more pictures of that will be up next week!

to greet you this weekend, TWC is excited to announce another first for us. so far we have launched The Favour Bar, streamlined our services for 2011 onwards and now we're pleased to bring to you TWC Publications 2011! this will basically see us produce FREE online material for anyone planning events, weddings or private parties!

no matter how tiny your home or room is, there is NO reason to not beautify it. i'm currently decorating my own small space now and hopefully will be able to pack all my ideas right into 150sq feet of space!

Wedding at Admiralty

coincidentally the weekend of Diwali saw us set-up an indian themed wedding! well, not exactly indian i would say but the dais was originally designed and created for a taj mahal inspired wedding we did back in May 2007.

May 2007 - time flies!

fast forward 3.5 years later, this dais went for a mini makeover ;) we did away with ostrich feathers and the white indian screen and injected more gold and green this time around.

it's a pity zilch tentage companies in singapore can offer beautiful tents like those of Raj Tents! i recall wow-ing their featured tents in Vogue eons ago. their customized and elegant array of original tent linings and valances have really set them apart from regular tent providers.

but really, it simply takes additional material and detailing (which you need to be ready to pay for on top of the tent itself!). well luckily, we can always start with small garden gazebos and parasols and TWC is looking forward to inject some glam into our garden parasols for a wedding this coming december :)

Wedding at The Arts House

we began planning this event with a rough inspirational board for our client. i recall we had to rush through her proposal as she was frequently out of town. and funnily i found this 'board' in my computer folder while saving her wedding pictures below. to be honest, we never looked back at that inspirational board when we got into the deep details of the wedding haha! so it's good to know the 'original' board did turn out similar to the final product :)

the event was held at The Blue Room, The Arts House. it was one of the smaller events we designed. less guests meant more detailing work for us...it gave us much opportunity to dress up the dinner tables for this one-time seating event for 80.

toile printed fans were used as place cards for each guests along with a customised place mat for all

stacked boxes wrapped in silk, toile and ribbons lined side by side the flowers as centrepieces

and the bridal table - tulle for that evergreen wispy romantic feel. each seated guest at the bridal table had their own posies too!

two weddings in fact!

anyways, it might be my addiction to desperate housewives which led to the idea of our latest dais design. as you may have noticed here at TWC we enjoy coming up with different concepts for the traditional dais found in weddings. apart from it being a platform to 'showcase' the bridal couple, it has transformed itself into a backdrop for bridal photography during a wedding reception.

so wouldn't it be lovely to have wisterias as a backdrop for a change? well we thought so at least and so did our clients ;)

we provided mainly floral services for the first event held there so these were the centrepieces ordered by our clients. they wanted something romantic. unfortunately, peonies were out of stock that weekend. gasp - we replaced them with the cutest pompoms.

neatly lined against the window while the caterers set the tables up!

the next day was a full event design set up for us. we thought the freestyle white orchid arrangement brilliantly complemented the wisteria dais

i was extremely thrilled to receive an email from Emily (founder and creative director of PTP) who by the way is oh-so-nuts over PAPER which we can totally relate to! so naturally we were over the moon to learn that she brought in the whole works i.e. antique letterpress printing machine + the necessary peripherals to start this letterpress printing business.

i've been wanting to post up pictures of our events from the last 2 weeks! but anyways, this new feature should top the list ahead of the other stuff we did.

to cut the story short, we must give credit to our latest client for giving us this very idea of a ... FAVOUR BAR. so thank you Shehnaz and Herman! they came to us keen on the dessert bar concept but figured if we could twist it a bit and pack all the desserts as favours instead.

so apart from customising desserts like we do for our dessert bars, choosing the different types of packaging and designing the labels etc was an additional task required.

no flowers no wedding. period. okay kidding ;) we can't be too harsh but flowers appear almost every where on your wedding day. guest tables, in your hand, on the car and even the groom's got a boutonniere!

therefore defining the floral concept of an event is a big part the conceptualization process. it creates the ambience you desire and enhances the colors around it. for this info session - we created autumn inspired arrangements in 3 sizes. we also featured a bridal bouquet with flowing phalaenopsis.

pronovias' collection for 2011 is out! i would say this year's catalog like the last did not live up to its most beautiful one in 2009 but like always the fantastic make-up (seriously recommend brides out there to bring these pictures to your make-up artist) and photography brings each gown featured to life!

what stood out for me from this year's collection was the ultra minimalist duchess satin gowns found in the style and costura collections. if you find lace, over the top tulle and ruffles very 2010, maybe these would make you stand out next year!

the clean lines and perfect cuts definitely accentuate the beauty of duchess satin itself.

apples and berries

the original plan was to have 8 couples but we hosted 15 eventually! so firstly apologies to those who felt they didn't get their hour's worth of time with us! our info session was slightly scaled down as compared to previous ones due to time constraints but i'll be featuring some 3 arrangements we displayed on sunday. since its october we thought a very warm romantic autumn like arrangement would be something nice to create for a change.

nothing very autumn here in singapore i know - the only words we can relate to in that description is warm. and very warm it has been this past week!!!

it was our first time working with external vendors for our bar. it was madness looking for vendors within short notice, what more on the 10.10.10 weekend! every baker in singapore was fully booked while one kindly offered to lay fondant over our cake admitting that was all she could offer! oh well, we didn't have time to even turn on the oven what more whip up 3 cakes!

the one memorable thing about this event? us not sleeping through the night tying ribbons to the favour boxes! best part? i don't even have a picture of it to upload on this blog!

we were extremely thrilled to work with Tatler Weddings a few months back. they kindly invited us to design a set to promote some uber luxurious time pieces over a 6-page spread in their annual weddings issue! within a rather short time frame i.e. 3 days or so we came up with the following 'backdrops' for the shoot. hectic but satisfying!

Where are TWC Informational Sessions held?
All our informational sessions are held at our private residence as TWC operates from a home office. We will inform you of the exact location once you have confirmed your booking with us.

Is there any obligation to sign a contract with TWC at the session?
No. Our informational sessions serve to share with potential clients our services.

How do I book a session and how many available sessions are there?
Our informational session will run from 1pm to 5pm. For this October 2010 edition, we will be opening a maximum of 8 sessions.

Ah its been ages since I updated on this blog! We've been working hard and hitting creative roadblocks of late while preparing a large number of proposals. Add unresponsive external vendors to that whole equation and you can consider this a period of trials. To all our Muslim friends, we wish you a blessed Ramadan - Eid preparations are probably starting to kick in now that it's just 2 weeks away.

We have mentioned previously that there have been a few major developments of late. Which is true by the way - thus the silence here! But anyways, looking forward as always, we're pleased to announce that TWC will be relocating. We have made our home(s) our offices and workspaces for the last 5 years which has saved us an incredible amount of costs! Now however with a growing set of props and business 'expansion' plus the sale of our dear home, TWC needs to move out of Fig. Street!

The blog name will remain though, hahah! Afterall, TWC was born right here along Figstreet. We will definitely make an announcement once everything has settled and who knows invite you to welcome our new home too ;)

In the meantime, its back to the drawing board.

we were extremely delighted to have shared our dessert bar service with Business Times Weekend last Saturday. For those who missed it, here's an excerpt of the article:

BRIDES beware: hiring The Wedding Chateau to take care of your big day could mean that the Best Dressed title may go to the dessert table instead. That's because the company, which specialises in design and desserts, is capable of turning out such stunning creations that one of its elaborate edible spreads was in May featured on the blog of American dessert and decor specialist Amy Atlas, the Martha Stewart of dessert bars who does projects for society folk and Hollywood celebrities.

Covering a table a couple of metres long, the baby blue and gold-hued sweet feast was backed by a gilded mirror and made up of tier upon tier of bonbons that included petite croquembouches, custom-wrapped chocolates, marshmallow kebabs and delicate macarons decorated with laurel wreaths and fleur de lis. It was a treat for both the eye and the palate, which is exactly what The Wedding Chateau owners and sisters Amal Sarah and Amal Najihah were shooting for when they began offering dessert bars last year as part of their repertoire (the company, which was set up in 2005, also does events including non-weddings and individual projects such as food favours and flower arrangements) ...

... Each dessert bar, which must be booked between two weeks and two months in advance depending on the level of complexity, is conceptualised individually, usually according to the theme of the client's event, then realised in hand-drawn sketches before the actual date. The Wedding Chateau has so far done a Renaissance-themed dessert bar, complete with a bust of Michelangelo's David on the table; a Chanel-inspired one with black-and-white tweed-patterned ribbons and apple juice served in bottles that resemble the brand's famous No 5 perfume; and one in striking Venetian red and Tyrian purple decorated with lush red roses, among others. the mad rush has sort of ended - we take a 1.5 month break from projects (yeay!) the coming weeks will be filled with client meetings (i think we owe a fair bunch of people out there proposals) and also waiting for some external vendors to return mails and calls!

i've not exactly been sitting on this but time seems to be against me whenever website publishing is involved. we have finally put up an ultra minimalist website which for starters will give you a succinct description of each of our services.

more site pages will be coming along as we progress towards next year such as a portfolio/gallery page (although i don't see a point in this since i post up most of our work on the blog) perhaps? i still like the blog platform only because it's pretty idiot-proof; thus more interactive stuff like polls, announcements and whatever-nots will maintain its appearance here!

i'm pretty excited for tmr and the coming week ahead with little tiny projects to look forward to; albeit last minute - the joys of rushing and intense brainstorming never fails to greet us over and over again.

Wedding at Piai Plaza

much time was spent praying the weather would cooperate for last weekend's wedding at the park. the heavy downpour in recent weeks + floods + strong winds required us to think of ways to plant our props at the event venue to ensure they didn't fly!

eventually, we were oh so very lucky there was no rain, just a slight drizzle and no crazy winds! and of course to top off another successful project, the bride's parents (and their guests) were extremely satisfied with our work ;) that's enough to compensate for all the weather-worry we suffered prior to that!

taupe table covers provided the base color for this wedding project. white drapes, green hedges and pencil pines lined the venue area. the fresh peonies and hydrangeas provided touches of pink to the whole set up - so those were the main colours we worked with. as for the dais, it was similar to the previous project except this time we were lucky to be able to enjoy the natural backdrop through the french windows! don't you think it looks as if we painted a mural behind it though, haha.

that is all from us now - we have one more wedding to go before we take a 1.5 month break!

Tangerine Noir

a couple of weeks ago, my sister prepared a set of gifts to be exchanged at an engagement ceremony. the bride requested the use of orange and black.

raw material like gunny were used to wrap the baseboards for the gift sets to rest on. to complement the tangerine silks and black velvet ribbons, each board was adorned with a floral arrangement made of either beautiful russet calla lilies, baby tiger lilies and an assortment of wild berries and blooms.

June Informational Session - Dessert Bar

as you may have guessed from our informational session poster, the fashion house of chanel was chosen to be the theme of our dessert bar feature. to translate what was quintessentially chanel, we set upon re-creating the textures, colors and materials famous to them. distinct chanel elements and items such as embellished tweeds, quilt bags and perfumes were replicated onto our dessert bar menu.

the menu: macarons

cupcakes: banana flavoured, we topped these cupcakes with a sugar rose and caramelised wafers, silver and pearl sprinkles. like how chanel manages to beautifully embellish their tweeds and garments, we thought we'd dress up a cupcake too!

sugar biscuits: fondant and icing used to create the chanel logo* against a quilt-like surface

eclairs: white chocolate topped a chocolate custard filled eclair! sugar pansies apart from the chanel monogram were used to decorate them. these were really yummy!

biscuit sticks: dipped in white chocolate and detailed with silver sprinkles

mini cakes: chocolate cake with ganache filling

pansy + monogram

and finally apple juice: my favourite item of the bar, apple juice in bottles which pretty much looks like your N°5!

we also got black white striped candies from sticky which perfectly complemented the set up.

that's all folks.

*the chanel monogram was used in this set up as it was a personal event. in any case where a request for us to re-create a similar themed dessert bar is received, copyrighted logos/trademarks will not be reproduced. we would also like to remind you that this is a purely chanel-inspired project with no association with the brand, chanel.

with an injection of pretty colours to the otherwise mundane greens/whites garden wedding combination, we created a fun loving summer garden wedding for our client Malisa. lush colorful flowers in shades of fuschia, sunny yellows and greens populated the guest tables while green garden parasols and boxed hedges helped cut a unique layout for the event hall.

the dais backdrop consisted of three panels of french windows flanked with velvet drapes and topiaries.

i can't believe the weekend is almost gone! but anyways, i was semi-productive yesterday having emailed what i needed to email and planned what i needed to do for the upcoming website. it might take quite a while more before we launch it so bear with this blog for the moment! what i achieved yesterday was also to finalize the date of our next informational session. so look out for our post this coming week!

also it was an exciting monday for us back this week when our Project V dessert bar made it to Amy Atlas' Blog. check it out here for those who missed it.

Project V: Behind the Scenes

friday 1100hrs: behind the scenes shots of project v. the fix up took approximately half a day. as it was a personal event, we had a good and relaxing time setting up the fixtures and props!

Project V: Dessert Bar

our dessert bar creation for this project required us to extend the chosen theme onto desserts. we customized our standard menu of items such as sugar biscuits, marshmallow kebabs and biscuit sticks according to theme but at the same time tried to incorporate some 'french-ness' into the whole display. apart from the regular cupcakes available, we introduced a mini croquembouche cupcake (a culinary experiment on our side) and macarons. dessert labels were translated into french too!

dessert bar skeleton: the night before the event saw us arrange and fix the main dessert bar features such as the large french frame which served to be the main backdrop of the bar.

the focal point of our most symmetrically designed bar (to date) were 2 towers of macaron shells. some were adorned with gold fleur de lis.

a closer look: 2 types of cupcakes were made: the mini croquembouche cupcakes were of lemon flavour while the blue frosted on your bottom left were chocolate. the blue macarons (later on we introduced soft green and sand colored ones for some pretty variation) were filled with nutella cream (yum!). we also managed to find some blue candy with brown stripes that perfectly matched the whole bar. for a different texture, jelly made in complementing colors were cut into cubes providing some nice translucency among the more 'opaque' desserts.

petite croquembouche: sprinkled with caramel. custard filling were added into the lemon cupcakes.

sugar biscuits: away with the usual geometrical designs of our previous bars, we royal iced wreaths and fleur de lis onto the biscuits to maintain the theme.some gold sparkle were then added for the finishing touch.

we re-packaged chocolate nuggets with a customized wrapper bearing the name of the bridal couple. the motif is similar to that used for for the bridal invitation card.

dessert bar labels: similar to the chocolate nugget wrapper, dessert labels for the bar used the same wreath motif...

instead of normal pearls embellishing our chocolate dipped marshmallows, gold sugar balls were used this time. fleur de lis motifs were also added to the sticks for detailing.

and finally we found beautiful sugar drizzles (more importantly in the right shade) for the popular biscuit sticks. we absolutely love how it looks like those colorful precious stones you pick up at a gem shop. yum.

we've been busy developing the website of late and attending to other stuff we had to abandon during project v prep. the dessert bar pictures will be up by next week, i promise! in the meantime, i'm hoping the weather will not ruin my weekend outdoor plans. plus, it's been cow-uite awhile since i ate some of these!

Project V: Event Decor

i'm not sure if my lousy camera did justice to the real hues used for our Versailles inspired wedding event design! anyways, for a re-cap, this was what we envisioned months back for the hall and buffet areas respectively. did we face challenges?! of course! it was immensely difficult to find the right shades of blue, the right type of material and props etc. in retrospect, this might be the fun part of our jobs though, haha.

the dais: the throne rooms of european palaces or the buckingham palace more precisely, was the main inspiration behind our dais design. unlike our other creations, the key here was to keep it plain and not overloaded with props. choice of materials was again extremely important and thus the use of high quality velvets, silks and trimmings remained the focal point. to be honest, our attention to detail can get overboard, i mention this because anyone would gag when they learn how much we paid for trimmings, yeah, those things your feet brush against when you step onto our dais. but it seems the design risk was too large to take if we went ahead with low quality stuff. okay moving on...

layout: tables were arranged into long banquet tables, just like grand dining halls of the past. pillars were draped in soft blue and muted gold silk and further embellished with golden bayleaf garlands made into wreaths. motifs such as wreaths and the fleur de lis were repeated onto many more areas to carry forth the whole royal french theme. gold bayleaves were also hung along the doors (not really visible from here). for those who attended the event, you would also realise we avoided decor for the aisle leading up to the dais. the reason behind this was again to direct the focus on the dais and leave the area spacious.

table centrepieces: hydrangeas and peonies accompanied by other complementing wild blooms were our floral choices. shades of white, baby pink and fuschia especially were added for some contrast against the powder blue linens. apart from those, verre églomisé pieces (definitely my favourite buy of this project!)and genuine ostrich plumes were further added to give the hall a more regal feel.

the bridal table: clear glassware and china with gilded designs were used at the bridal table. our mother was generous (and brave) enough to rent her pink ainsley tea cups with the most gorgeous gold details. these are not being produced anymore sadly :( the bride and groom were each given a posy of white peonies. a pavlova (not done up yet in this pic) topped with berries, chocolate tarts and macarons accompanied the wedding cake which we used as the main table centrepiece for the bridal table.

the cake: to complement the whole design, the cake was blue based with gold details. more on this in another post!

the buffet area: hedges and pine trees were placed at the buffet area to provide a parterre concept feel famous to french gardens. a small guest seating area set under a parasol was also added. white organza drapes with wreaths and fleur de lis prints were made backdrops too.

its amazing how time flew by and now see myself writing about the work we have completed. Project V is a special project for us for a couple of reasons. mainly, we hope for our clients and potential clients to understand how the design process at TWC functions. detail is everything - that's a fact and that's also how we work. we relish every challenge that comes by in interpreting people's design inspiration. we take it very seriously too and always try our best to maximize the budget we have work within! we hope this project V series provided greater insight to our work and a sincere thank you all for the awesome support ;)

hi there again, it's been a busy week for us preparing for Project V. there are still slots available by the way for the on site viewing. anyways as promised, here are the remaining pictures of our Style Weddings feature.

in all, we did a table set up, a mini dessert bar, a reception/solemnization table, a bridal bouquet, stationery and ring pillow...yeah that's about it i guess. enjoy ;)

Project V: Invitation

it's been an extremely long time since i posted updates on Project V! anyways, the invitation cards have been out for quite awhile already. since the last update, we suffered many headaches over the right hues of blue that will take 'center stage' on the event day itself. the dais, table linens etc. items that have been imported should be arriving soon! apart from scouring the internet, some good deals came across through random discoveries at which being the typical singaporeans, we swept everything off the (dusty) shelf!

as this is one of our most customised projects yet, TWC has decided to invite 6 couples for an exclusive on-site viewing of Project V! it will be a guided tour of sorts around the venue led by us. we highly encourage those who did not have a chance to attend our recent informational session to sign up too!

Bunga Rampai Revisited

often received at weddings and other important functions, the bunga rampai - an assortment of flowers (usually jasmine and rose) with pandan leaves is placed in weaved baskets or handkerchiefs. these days, they can be received in beaded cones or heavily embellished vessels. in our recent family engagement event, we used a simple glass vessel (or tea light holder) wrapped in white muslin to hold the bunga rampai.

Featured: An Eco-Themed Wedding

TWC worked with Style Weddings magazine a few months back to produce an eco-themed wedding feature. We provided stationery, table design, flowers, favours and a dessert bar for the shoot! Very glad the pictures came out great - it was raining during the shoot and thus getting some good natural lighting (and ensuring our items remain dry!) were some challenges!

during our info session, we featured our stationery collection offering bespoke services. similar to our event design service, stationery at TWC is designed from scratch, often to complement your event. we enjoy advising clients on the different types of paper and printing options available. apart from design services, we also provide hand-drawn maps and guest name printing on envelopes.

March Informational Session: Table Design

a dusty blue silk table cover provided the backdrop for our table design last weekend. florals in various hues of pink presented a pretty contrast while our tableware consisted of silver, clear glass and coloured china.

apart from ranunculi (from our thank you postcard in the post below), our fresh floral arrangements were made up mostly of classic wedding blooms - beautiful peonies, roses and hydrangeas placed in assorted silverware.

The Engagement Party

presenting TWC's dessert bar at an engagement party hosted by us on Sunday - venetian red and tyrian were the chosen colors to feature, something we haven't worked with before! all went well thankfully except that the weather was hot and humid! more dessert bar pictures will be up once i get sufficient rest from the hectic weekend!

it took more than the projected intensive 3 days for the massive clean-up of our inventory! space seems to be a constraint as we add on more items into the inventory list. as of now we have yet to organise our ribbon collection and materials! oh well, at least it is way more organized than its ever been since we established TWC!

Pronovias Portraits

Pronovias themed their catalogue 2010 on wedding portraits. i must say, it doesn't stand out as much as last year's catalogue shot at beautiful italian lakes. however, the sepia toned and b/w 'portraits' for the manuel mota collection especially does evoke elegant glamour of the hepburn era.

Back to Work

for most of us, it's back to work - luckily for a 3 day week! for us here at TWC, we are currently preparing for a family event end of the month. only in such circumstances are we able to 'experiment' with certain color combinations. so watch out for that! apart from this exciting project, i can't wait to indulge in some good Mediterranean/Mideastern inspired cuisine prepared for the event.
