Le Divan Fumoir Bohemian

do i know what it means? no. is the blog in english? no. BUT, it's got tags such as 'maison', 'londres', 'papier' and 'paris' and that's enough to get me browsing. this blog offers a sufficient dose of inspiring pictures (and those speak a thousand words) and it was through these pictures that i landed there.

beautiful bookbinders ;)

Ivanka Trumps's Weekend Wedding Preview

inspired by the grace kelly look, ivanka trump customized her own vera wang gown.

a very classic-timeless look she went for - must have been a big surprise to people who expected a similar over the top wedding like her dad's.

can't wait to see other pictures from her reception!

Garden District of New Orleans

shoebox apartments or homes the size of 2.5 carparks? well why not introduce the shotgun house to singapore!!! via style court, i found this gem of a post featuring the beautiful garden district of new orleans! a little history here; back in the 1850s, people (mostly entrepreneurs, the "nouveau rich" of that time) settled into the garden district and built many beautiful homes reflecting varied architectural styles such as Greek Revival or Queen Anne Victorians. Apart from the huge mansions found in this district there is one street, Coliseum St which is home to shotgun houses. i just learnt what a shotgun house is, basically a house so small a bullet can cleanly cut through the front door right through to the back door!

so in 1868, Henry Howard designed 8 cottages or these shotgun homes now known as the 'Seven Sisters' along Coliseum St Row. don't ask why its seven when there are 8, cos the folks don't know either. but anyhow, Howard nevertheless made the street oh-so-beautiful by building these 8 'cottages'!!!

its just lovely how such grand elements (think: greek pillars or anything italianate) have been proportionately downsized and made even more irresistible through such structures.

the beauty does not end at the facade. thats the starting point. also via style court, one of the interiors of these cottage homes was redecorated to look like this...

promising aren't they, for a small country like singapore. i feel like building one in the backyard.

Special Projects

figstreet will be hosting a behind-the-scenes series of blog posts as a build up to one of our biggest wedding projects yet! through these, we hope to share with everyone the conceptualization & design process that entails every wedding project, our sources of inspiration and the many many trips around this island sourcing for materials & props etc! and bear with us too, the humps and bumps we might potentially suffer, haha! minimal i pray this time around ;)

as of now, we have yet to build upon the main ideas we came up with awhile ago. hopefully that will be fixed after our information session this 31st where our dear bride will make known her final requirements and the likes. time seems to be running faster these days and with event day in approximately six months time or so, we better get rollin' soon!

stay tuned ;)

Jo Gets Married

if you have not been reading A Cup of Jo (why haven't you?!), let me tell you she has graciously shared with readers her wedding planning journey for months. the more i look at her pictures, the more ways i think of saving enough moolahs to fly max wanger over to singapore when it's my turn ;)

Bag Tales

it's sold out on net-a-porter. sigh, i can't stop staring at this one.

anyhow - although i've only got less than a month of escuela left, i just bought myself an old-school school bag. totally complements my must-have canary notepads. also, it's big enough to fit TWC meeting peripherals. there, purchase justified.

Chrome-ing

there are reasons why i ditched IE browsers and reasons why i love google chrome! apart from applying google-created themes, you have the option to dress your browser home page with themes by artists! yes, i get excited by such things apart from tissue organza!

kate spade

cath kidston

even royal delft porcelain makes an appearance!

oscar de la renta, although i would have preferred their print on my sidebar

and fashion brands such as chloe

other cool skins include those from tory burch, marlies dekkers, edward monkton and badgley mischka it will be cool though if you could create your own skin =) offices/businesses could then customize the look of their browsers.

V is for Genius

can't help but be fascinated with the haphazard tissue organza and dramatic skirts that make up vera wang's spring 2010 collection. even though some may look like a pile of excess remnants at a spotlight counter, the genius that is Vera manages to create a playful yet sophisticated and overall whimsical look for the daring bride!

this one is priced at USD6,800

the back!

the white tulle actually layers over a handpainted floral print - amazing details

i featured this gown in my previous post and finally got a rear view of it! you need guts and glamour genes to pull this off!

price upon request? hmm, whatever it is i'm sure its not more than fann wong's highly questionable bally gown!

discussing possible dessert bar themes with the sis, i'm very keen on creating a dessert bar reflecting vera wang's spring 2010 collection! whites/nudes, alot of play with ruffles and textures, anyone interested? i think it'd be something quite the un-ordinary...

okay apart from those, there's monique lhullier's sunday rose gown to match vera's dramatic skirts. away from the fluffy puffy world of tulle and organza which i seem to be trapped in these days, Dolly Couture (left) offers brides vintage inspired gowns at very very reasonable prices! only 3 digits $$$! thought i'd just add it in this post since vintage inspired weddings are the current in-things.
