Ramadan Kareem

The month long 'celebration' kicks off tonight with the first terawih prayers to be performed. Apart from the spiritual benefits to reap during this holy month, the annual routine of aimlessly wandering around the bazaars promises more good times with the loved ones =) Here's wishing all a blessed month!

obviously, he's more pro at camwhoring than i am!

IN THE NEWS: I read in today's papers that there will be a ban on outdoor cooking at the bazaars. does this mean no burger ramly and deng deng?! anyone who's got updates on this please enlighten me before i scream RIDICULOUS.

Horchow!

rarely will you be ever disappointed browsing through the pages of Horchow. their chinois pieces on display are a feast for the eye. their silver pillows & throws are as good as gold and you'd be better off checking it out yourself because i'm hardly coherent when excited! i haven't had time to explore the entire site but here are a four items which would be in my cart if...yeah IF.

i know i said previously that i wasn't fond of the butterfly motif. BUT its hard to not love the colors of the garden seat and a glass/brass combi ornament (my mother would so love this)

well it's been 3 weeks since my internship began and i've been scheduling twc matters after office hours since then. it has been QUITE tiring i must say to be working the whole day till night. working in 2 very different industries at the same time feels like living two different lives. it's strange really, but i was born a gemini, maybe that's why i find myself in such a position!

Saturday = IKEA Day. well, just for this saturday at least.

have a great weekend, really!

Orwell Online

The Orwell Prize, Britain’s pre-eminent prize for political writing, is publishing George Orwell’s diaries as a blog. From 9th August 2008, Orwell’s domestic and political diaries (from 9th August 1938 until October 1942) will be posted in real-time, exactly 70 years after the entries were written.

Orwell’s ‘domestic’ diaries begin on 9th August 1938/2008; his ‘political’ diaries (which are further categorised as ‘Morocco’, ‘Pre-war’ and ‘Wartime’) begin on 7th September 1938/2008.

This is another brilliant blog idea - do check it out daily here!

He Turns 3!

Ilhan turned 3 on the 22nd of August. His party this time round was kind of a rush cos we were all busy with wedding projects and my sister didn't have as much time as she did for the past 2 years but in the end, I thought there was as much food and as many door gifts and candies as there were for the last 2 birthday parties.

i'm tired and very much stuffed!

a present from aunty barcelonista

she complained she was short of time but still baked these

and prepared all of these, oh there was rosemary roasted chicken, prawn salad, popiah etc, short of time we said?

the last minute birthday cake. initially, we planned to order this thomas train cake from coffee bean but it couldn't be delivered on time and angie cake shop charged 300 bucks for a non-3D buttercream cake! ridiculous. eventually my mom, other sister and i did this till 3am in the morning!

the birthday boy table

this was my best friend. haha, while the kids played, all the adults sat in front of the telly with this candy tier and watched the Olympics.

birthday boy, cousins, aunties, uncles and me

Most Wanted #2

after a day of staring into annual reports, this is eye medication.

not usually fond of the butterfly motif, but this is attractive on the contrary hehe

penhaligon's - nuff said!

hydrangeas in a complementing silver vase - room floral arrangement for Eid this year?

i'm a sucker for anything enamel, pots and pans included

don't they look so edible? hahah

these just look pretty cool plus its enamel! i realise its good to place a unique object in the room you receive guests in as it acts as a good conversation starter. esp good for pple like me who struggle to save conversations from entering into awkward silences.

let's see, if i had this, i'd wear it while baking cakes!

just flawless

and wouldn't this be fun to play with? haha

Simple Swedish Solution

Hands up if IKEA saved you one way or another at least once in your lifetime!

The only negative point about this company is that it burns unnecessary holes in your pocket everytime you make a trip down. Everything is so reasonably priced that you'd somehow find a reason to purchase all that you see. In the end, your total receipts give you as much surprise (say SGD 399) as lifting up a pretty glass jar at the basement that costs SGD3.99!

But we get tempted as always because smart IKEA delivers their catalogue to every doorstep in Singapore! thus i'm looking for a free weekday night or weekend to drop down to the Tampines store. Here are some of my favourites from their 2009 catalogue:

the yellow glass cupboard is a lovely contrast to add to any room =)

gold frame mirrors - good buys

organize! these drawers excite me

candle holders - i've got a few of the taller ones which i use for some events, a good and cheap alternative to silver/-plated ones

green! i've got the grey ones and i love the red version too but i think this army/moss green suits my room better

Wedding at Pasir Ris

a recently (well about a few months back i suppose) opened park next to Aranda Club and Downtown East was where the wedding event took place. the location was great in a way that the large shelter area we used for the wedding was surrounded by lush greenery. there was also a 'pond' which i thought looked more like a meteorite crater - sorry i have to mention this cos i'm still thoroughly amused by it =)

anyhow the surrounding area was pretty enough not to be overlooked and we decided to incorporate the decor into it rather than decorate the area per se. the sunlight which danced its way through the branches and leaves of nearby trees definitely added a feeling of warmth to the place. something i was particularly fond of.

here are a few pictures. i refrain from putting more up so that when my website gallery is launched, these projects won't look so basi? haha!

i begin my second industrial attachment tomorrow and hopefully i can update this space as often as i would like to ;) enjoy the pics!

introducing our resident photographer

these were scattered around the buffet area

our guest table arrangement - the ice cream cone

mini cakes as the 'wedding cake' - dahlias, wax flowers on soft pink fondant

the bridal table

the aisle leading to the dais

that's about it! have a great week ahead =)

Number Two

this is our final project before the fasting month begins and before i start work! there'll be major inventory reshuffling as usual after this - the most unglamorous part of the job truth be told.

our project this weekend takes place at Pasir Ris, a park near Downtown East. there was a storm today (read: strong winds, swaying trees, lightning, thunder and the works) and we're praying hard the weather will be favourable tomorrow. isn't it always during National Day?! haha.

flowers and other prep work took a longer time than usual cos for the past week all of us were down with flu! but we're alright now, alright enough to start work again no less or maybe we did it today cos we just had no other option, hah!

whites and hues of pink were the main colours involved. more pictures later - too tired =(

centre pieces for the guest tables

happy national day + happy olympics too!
