Wedding at Tampines Changkat

as promised, the full pictures of last weekend's wedding at tampines.

the dais made up of a red songket screen and traditional malay ornaments such as the gong and bunga pahar

hall layout; we had eight 12-seater tables in total

the palms were scattered around the hall accompanied by our golden birds, this time with a full body of red roses

we had two centrepieces; for the round tables, a small arrangement of red roses was made while the bigger tables' arrangement included hydrangeas and matthiolas

a simple green hydrangea arrangement for the reception table

our buffet table set up

the bridal table

large dried leaves treated and painted gold were used to hold our floral arrangement for the bridal table. to fill up the empty areas, we placed glass lanterns alongside the arrangements and scattered rose petals

Red Songket

this weekend's project gave us the opportunity to fashion a wedding in true traditional malay style. the main colours involved were red and gold. material-wise, songket and rich velvets were used. to add texture and pattern, we decided to play around with green/gold palm leaves and berries and other props which reflect a traditional malay feel.

pictures of the full decor will be up next ;)

Hickory Dickory Dock

i absolutely love Habitually Chic's Hickory Chair Series on her blog. her tour of hickory chair's factory highlights the arduous process of furniture making and also how commited these furniture specialists are to their craft. its just so inspiring to see a bunch of passionate people making furniture their art and not just a made in china. this totally reminds be of my family's ex kitchen cabinet carpenter. he was ultra meticulous to the point of ocd and that could only lead to PERFECTLY fitted cabinets Bree would approve of. unfortunately for me, he's retired already =(

ooh la la wouldn't it be heaven to explore the thousand racks of material samples in this factory.

i want to attend Hickory Chair University!

The Egg

i realised berkat is the correct term for favours in Malay but the term bunga telor has been used interchangeably to refer to berkat all these years! well its not that surprising because the EGG has been the traditional choice of wedding favours since forever in Malay culture. to explain the bunga (flower) part, there was also this tendency to artfully attach the egg by a tulle pouch to a flower usually made by a variety of materials. an example of what it looks like can be found here.

anyhow, to preserve tradition by sticking to eggs as your choice of wedding favours, we thought it's about time to give an update to this old time favourite.

coloring and imprinting your eggs with various patterns, in this case with marble-ing or speckle-ing effects or for a more fanciful option, imprinting lace patterns on the egg are such improvisations we are offering to the bunga telor.

comes in any 2 colour combinations

the egg could then be placed in a ceramic or glass vessel embellished with a ribbon and tag for example. of course its best to place them in clear vessels so that egg decoration would be easily visible.

Born

On June the 5th, Salvatore Ferragamo was born. And so were Adam Smith and John Maynard Keynes. I was never fond of studying economics but I love shoes and bags made of luxurious materials ;)

Thank you all for

e-wishes
an unexpectedly long phone conversation
a delightful lunch and
an almost perfect night
