The Giant Red Peony

apologies for the mini blog-hiatus. we've been struggling to get through one of the busiest periods of our lives of late! it's been quite a juggle this past week to be honest. well amidst the chaos, we can't help but notice this giant of a peony which can pretty much cover your entire face!

flowers and simply more flowers flooded our porch over the long weekend. we had plenty of orders for bridesmaid bouquets (yes, the giant peonies were for some lucky bridesmaids), bridal bouquets, floral wreaths, boutonnieres, corsages, unity candles, table centrepieces and other central arrangements.

anyways, we can't wait to share with you the highlight of our weekend wedding projects! next post ;)

Information Surfing in Past Centuries

love books? yes. as much as kindle is highly the in-thing now - i hate reading from a screen! i tend to arm myself with little post-it tabs or a pencil for bookmarking. that wouldn't be possible would it on a kindle? ok perhaps digital bookmarking softwares could solve that or simply a tablet kindle ;). looks like every activity will soon be electronified! (aren't some of you exercising via Wii?)

anyhow people of the past may have been deprived of cool technology but they were well compensated with grand libraries like these! not exactly world wide web but large library (for) learning. see more from beachbungalow8.

Drawn to the Dark Side

inspired by the recent gloomy weather, here are some chic examples of GREY in the house. i totally love this color especially paired with yellow and/or rich mahogany. although we've done a platinum inspired wedding before, i think using darker hues of grey would make a pretty classy wedding too. anyone interested? ;)

adding some texture with the velvet couch to a dominantly grey colored room

soft brown + gold touches for some contrast (loves the tufted settee!)

okay let's just end on a brighter note! (lovin' the drapes)

Color Splash!

if you are aware of picture source please leave a comment! thanks!

this boy couldn't possibly be thinking of his wedding event color scheme right? but whatever it is, turning to his back would be a good start for inspiration!

Project V: Props and Materials

the next few posts concerning Project V will be overviews of the design concept for the few areas we're working on namely the event hall, buffet area, dessert bar and wedding stationery. once i'm done on these, hopefully by then we'll get to share with you the actual items we're using for the event itself plus our sketches!!!

Versailles - it was built to impress and perhaps intimidate visitors with its grandiose architecture. simply, it was a work of art par excellence from its gardens to interiors. for us here, our task would be to include baroque architectural elements into our design concept. ornate and complex patterns and rich materials are common features of baroque style. we'd be looking to use some of these to dress up the FCG hall. however keeping in mind this is a wedding after all, we'd be looking to soften the whole look with flowing materials and fresh florals as well.

here are some decorative elements/motifs we have been looking add to include in the design for the hall. acanthus leaves or any stylized leaves, ostrich plumes and gilded ornaments! materials: velvet & silks. it's going to be tough sourcing for the right shades of teal in those materials for sure.

the above are very rough ideas, feel, motifs we hope to modify and translate onto the final board (where pics of things we're actually using is gonna be on!) for Project V. currently we have more or less settled on the dais design (will scan the sketch and share it with you on the next post perhaps?), surrounding decor of the hall (windows, pillars, large blank padded wall). we have yet to decide on the hall layout as for now but once that's done we settle on the exact centerpieces we'll be creating.

next update i'll touch on our rather ambitious interpretation of the Garden of Versailles for the buffet area!

our tip: what's your wedding going to look like? before settling on the little details like thinking how your invitation might look like, your bridal bouquet design or even the color schemes to settle on, we'll usually ask you first, how do you envision your wedding to be? put on hold the web surfing as those million ideas you come across may unnecessarily overwhelm your thoughts. once you have a clearer idea of the feel & concept you want only then would it be more resourceful to look around for ideas online and offline that can match your concept. plus there'll be more focus when developing your idea/inspiration board =)

although highly thematic weddings can be all exciting for guests, remember your wedding is a WEDDING after all, NOT a costume party. for your amusement, here were some weddings that became the latter!

Introduction to Project V

our discussion has given us the go ahead to get started on Project V. our Client D&N loved the entire concept, color choices and ideas we brought forth so now let me reveal to you what Project V is all about! Project V will be held at Fort Canning Gallery in about less than 5 months. D&N has required the following no. of services namely Event Design, Stationery, Flowers and a Dessert Bar.

Project V is named as such because we're looking at the one of the most beautiful chateaux in France for inspiration...CHATEAU DE VERSAILLES! below is a basic concept board we came up with while proposing the whole idea to our client.
our concept board will tell you the theme we're hoping to translate onto the event space as well as the color palette we're working with. the colors for this event are completely new to us which makes it even more exciting. mainly the event hall will be dressed in Teal & Gold while subtle shades of light mocha, soft pink rose and pink putty will be added to complete the look, it's all very much inspired by the picture above to your right.

as with the theme, we will be looking at something regal but not too over the top. the picture of the Buckingham Palace throne room seemed quite perfect as a focal point of the event hall i.e. the Dais. we did look at the throne room in Versailles initially but found it rather plain compared to this one. alternatively, Napoleon's Fontainebleau throne room is lovely too! well in essence, we're looking for inspiration from these throne rooms for the dais.

next up, what would Versailles be without its world-famous gardens?! good thing about FCG is that it's divided into 2 areas, indoor + outdoor. like most of our other weddings, the buffet area will be placed at the outdoor portion. thus it's only natural to re-create our Garden of Versailles here. the french parterres concept will be very much used.

alright, so that's all for now. next up we hope to share the elements and props we'll be looking to use for Project V.

have a good week ahead folks!
