Bunga Rampai Revisited

often received at weddings and other important functions, the bunga rampai - an assortment of flowers (usually jasmine and rose) with pandan leaves is placed in weaved baskets or handkerchiefs. these days, they can be received in beaded cones or heavily embellished vessels. in our recent family engagement event, we used a simple glass vessel (or tea light holder) wrapped in white muslin to hold the bunga rampai.

Twenty Ten

happy new year! better late than never! we're still in the midst of organizing our inventory so that's taking up most of my time these days. but thankfully i did manage to celebrate the last day of 2009 with great food & friends. in short i was royally stuffed! well, i can't wait to share pics of our storage space - it's slowly starting to look like what i envisioned it to be i.e. a shop!

in the meantime, we managed to squeeze in an order of some butterfly cookies.

for the coming year, the wedding chateau's looking to embark on more delightful/interesting projects that will allow us to stretch our creative limits. we're also looking to improve our current website, so stay tuned for that. thank you figstreet readers, our FB fans and all who have supported our endeavors thus far...let's hope and pray twenty ten will be better for all ;)

October Informational Session

hi all, thank you so much to those who made it down to our october informational session! although preparation time was short & hectic, it was all worth it! we hope to organize another one in 3-4 months time where we'll feature another 2 services offered. thanks all once again for the great response. for those who were unable to come down, you can email us at enquiry@the-wedding-chateau.com for a summary of our services + pricing list which are handouts guests received at the session.

Old School

well wouldn't it be interesting to make old school snacks a wedding favour especially if you or your partner were one of those born in the 80s who religiously saved up not dollars, but many cents to get your hands on a box of tora.

my sister just told me of this void deck shop which stocks a wide range of old school snacks at whompoa. there's another one near the haig road market too. there are probably these stores in every heartland void deck, the quest however is to find the biggest and the best!

The Egg

i realised berkat is the correct term for favours in Malay but the term bunga telor has been used interchangeably to refer to berkat all these years! well its not that surprising because the EGG has been the traditional choice of wedding favours since forever in Malay culture. to explain the bunga (flower) part, there was also this tendency to artfully attach the egg by a tulle pouch to a flower usually made by a variety of materials. an example of what it looks like can be found here.

anyhow, to preserve tradition by sticking to eggs as your choice of wedding favours, we thought it's about time to give an update to this old time favourite.

coloring and imprinting your eggs with various patterns, in this case with marble-ing or speckle-ing effects or for a more fanciful option, imprinting lace patterns on the egg are such improvisations we are offering to the bunga telor.

the egg could then be placed in a ceramic or glass vessel embellished with a ribbon and tag for example. of course its best to place them in clear vessels so that egg decoration would be easily visible.
