Project V: Behind the Scenes

friday 1100hrs: behind the scenes shots of project v. the fix up took approximately half a day. as it was a personal event, we had a good and relaxing time setting up the fixtures and props!

Project V: Dessert Bar

our dessert bar creation for this project required us to extend the chosen theme onto desserts. we customized our standard menu of items such as sugar biscuits, marshmallow kebabs and biscuit sticks according to theme but at the same time tried to incorporate some 'french-ness' into the whole display. apart from the regular cupcakes available, we introduced a mini croquembouche cupcake (a culinary experiment on our side) and macarons. dessert labels were translated into french too!

dessert bar skeleton: the night before the event saw us arrange and fix the main dessert bar features such as the large french frame which served to be the main backdrop of the bar.

the focal point of our most symmetrically designed bar (to date) were 2 towers of macaron shells. some were adorned with gold fleur de lis.

a closer look: 2 types of cupcakes were made: the mini croquembouche cupcakes were of lemon flavour while the blue frosted on your bottom left were chocolate. the blue macarons (later on we introduced soft green and sand colored ones for some pretty variation) were filled with nutella cream (yum!). we also managed to find some blue candy with brown stripes that perfectly matched the whole bar. for a different texture, jelly made in complementing colors were cut into cubes providing some nice translucency among the more 'opaque' desserts. 

petite croquembouche: sprinkled with caramel. custard filling were added into the lemon cupcakes. 

sugar biscuits: away with the usual geometrical designs of our previous bars, we royal iced wreaths and fleur de lis onto the biscuits to maintain the theme.some gold sparkle were then added for the finishing touch.

we re-packaged chocolate nuggets with a customized wrapper bearing the name of the bridal couple. the motif is similar to that used for for the bridal invitation card.

dessert bar labels: similar to the chocolate nugget wrapper, dessert labels for the bar used the same wreath motif...

instead of normal pearls embellishing our chocolate dipped marshmallows, gold sugar balls were used this time. fleur de lis motifs were also added to the sticks for detailing. 

and finally we found beautiful sugar drizzles (more importantly in the right shade) for the popular biscuit sticks. we absolutely love how it looks like those colorful precious stones you pick up at a gem shop. yum.

Project V: Event Decor

i'm not sure if my lousy camera did justice to the real hues used for our Versailles inspired wedding event design! anyways, for a re-cap, this was what we envisioned months back for the hall and buffet areas respectively. did we face challenges?! of course! it was immensely difficult to find the right shades of blue, the right type of material and props etc. in retrospect, this might be the fun part of our jobs though, haha.

the dais: the throne rooms of european palaces or the buckingham palace more precisely, was the main inspiration behind our dais design. unlike our other creations, the key here was to keep it plain and not overloaded with props. choice of materials was again extremely important and thus the use of high quality velvets, silks and trimmings remained the focal point. to be honest, our attention to detail can get overboard, i mention this because anyone would gag when they learn how much we paid for trimmings, yeah, those things your feet brush against when you step onto our dais. but it seems the design risk was too large to take if we went ahead with low quality stuff. okay moving on...

layout: tables were arranged into long banquet tables, just like grand dining halls of the past. pillars were draped in soft blue and muted gold silk and further embellished with golden bayleaf garlands made into wreaths. motifs such as wreaths and the fleur de lis were repeated onto many more areas to carry forth the whole royal french theme. gold bayleaves were also hung along the doors (not really visible from here). for those who attended the event, you would also realise we avoided decor for the aisle leading up to the dais. the reason behind this was again to direct the focus on the dais and leave the area spacious.

table centrepieces: hydrangeas and peonies accompanied by other complementing wild blooms were our floral choices. shades of white, baby pink and fuschia especially were added for some contrast against the powder blue linens. apart from those, verre églomisé pieces (definitely my favourite buy of this project!)and genuine ostrich plumes were further added to give the hall a more regal feel.

the bridal table: clear glassware and china with gilded designs were used at the bridal table. our mother was generous (and brave) enough to rent her pink ainsley tea cups with the most gorgeous gold details. these are not being produced anymore sadly :( the bride and groom were each given a posy of white peonies. a pavlova (not done up yet in this pic) topped with berries, chocolate tarts and macarons accompanied the wedding cake which we used as the main table centrepiece for the bridal table.

the cake: to complement the whole design, the cake was blue based with gold details. more on this in another post!

the buffet area: hedges and pine trees were placed at the buffet area to provide a parterre concept feel famous to french gardens. a small guest seating area set under a parasol was also added. white organza drapes with wreaths and fleur de lis prints were made backdrops too.

its amazing how time flew by and now see myself writing about the work we have completed. Project V is a special project for us for a couple of reasons. mainly, we hope for our clients and potential clients to understand how the design process at TWC functions. detail is everything - that's a fact and that's also how we work. we relish every challenge that comes by in interpreting people's design inspiration. we take it very seriously too and always try our best to maximize the budget we have work within! we hope this project V series provided greater insight to our work and a sincere thank you all for the awesome support ;)

Project V: Dessert Bar Preview

truth be told, inspiration for this bar came rather late but desperation can bring wonders i suppose. haha! but anyways, ideas can form in 10 minutes but their arrival may take quite some time. carrying forth the theme, motifs and colors we were working with, be sure to catch our full 'review' of the "Versailles" inspired dessert bar.

Project V: Preview

hey all, it has been a mighty busy week for us and we faced many challenges without doubt! but thankfully a) we found good substitutes for things that didn't go to plan and b) kept our sanity in check ;)

so here's a little preview of the event that will be on tomorrow. for those who signed up, hope to see you there!

Project V: Invitation

it's been an extremely long time since i posted updates on Project V! anyways, the invitation cards have been out for quite awhile already. since the last update, we suffered many headaches over the right hues of blue that will take 'center stage' on the event day itself. the dais, table linens etc. items that have been imported should be arriving soon! apart from scouring the internet, some good deals came across through random discoveries at which being the typical singaporeans, we swept everything off the (dusty) shelf!

as this is one of our most customised projects yet, TWC has decided to invite 6 couples for an exclusive on-site viewing of Project V! it will be a guided tour of sorts around the venue led by us. we highly encourage those who did not have a chance to attend our recent informational session to sign up too!

Project V: Stationery Part I

hey there, apologies for the lack of posts! anyways here is an update on project V! to match the whole versailles/french theme we're working on, the invitation simply features a gold wreath around an oval border. a hand drawn direction card will also be included but i'll feature that once we've finalized on some details :)

we're still finalizing stuff for the dessert bar we're planning to feature for Project V and please pray i find a solution to connect my printer to my new computer so i can easily scan our sketches and put it up here for all to see!

Project V: Outdoors

another update on Project V: the buffet area. as mentioned before, we will be looking towards a french garden/parterres concept for inspiration. topiaries & stone/statues are key props we hope to use as well.

what we're designing is a buffet area that really looks like it's IN a garden. where people would feel that they'll be getting their food while flanked by large pencil pines and parterres. as most buffet areas are open to allow better traffic flow, this one would be made to be more 'confined'.

Project V: Props and Materials

the next few posts concerning Project V will be overviews of the design concept for the few areas we're working on namely the event hall, buffet area, dessert bar and wedding stationery. once i'm done on these, hopefully by then we'll get to share with you the actual items we're using for the event itself plus our sketches!!!

Versailles - it was built to impress and perhaps intimidate visitors with its grandiose architecture. simply, it was a work of art par excellence from its gardens to interiors. for us here, our task would be to include baroque architectural elements into our design concept. ornate and complex patterns and rich materials are common features of baroque style. we'd be looking to use some of these to dress up the FCG hall. however keeping in mind this is a wedding after all, we'd be looking to soften the whole look with flowing materials and fresh florals as well.

here are some decorative elements/motifs we have been looking add to include in the design for the hall. acanthus leaves or any stylized leaves, ostrich plumes and gilded ornaments! materials: velvet & silks. it's going to be tough sourcing for the right shades of teal in those materials for sure.

the above are very rough ideas, feel, motifs we hope to modify and translate onto the final board (where pics of things we're actually using is gonna be on!) for Project V. currently we have more or less settled on the dais design (will scan the sketch and share it with you on the next post perhaps?), surrounding decor of the hall (windows, pillars, large blank padded wall). we have yet to decide on the hall layout as for now but once that's done we settle on the exact centerpieces we'll be creating.

next update i'll touch on our rather ambitious interpretation of the Garden of Versailles for the buffet area!

Introduction to Project V

our discussion has given us the go ahead to get started on Project V. our Client D&N loved the entire concept, color choices and ideas we brought forth so now let me reveal to you what Project V is all about! Project V will be held at Fort Canning Gallery in about less than 5 months. D&N has required the following no. of services namely Event Design, Stationery, Flowers and a Dessert Bar.

Project V is named as such because we're looking at the one of the most beautiful chateaux in France for inspiration...CHATEAU DE VERSAILLES! below is a basic concept board we came up with while proposing the whole idea to our client.

our concept board will tell you the theme we're hoping to translate onto the event space as well as the color palette we're working with. the colors for this event are completely new to us which makes it even more exciting. mainly the event hall will be dressed in Teal & Gold while subtle shades of light mocha, soft pink rose and pink putty will be added to complete the look, it's all very much inspired by the picture above to your right.

as with the theme, we will be looking at something regal but not too over the top. the picture of the Buckingham Palace throne room seemed quite perfect as a focal point of the event hall i.e. the Dais. we did look at the throne room in Versailles initially but found it rather plain compared to this one. alternatively, Napoleon's Fontainebleau throne room is lovely too! well in essence, we're looking for inspiration from these throne rooms for the dais.

next up, what would Versailles be without its world-famous gardens?! good thing about FCG is that it's divided into 2 areas, indoor + outdoor. like most of our other weddings, the buffet area will be placed at the outdoor portion. thus it's only natural to re-create our Garden of Versailles here. the french parterres concept will be very much used.

figstreet will be hosting a behind-the-scenes series of blog posts as a build up to one of our biggest wedding projects yet! through these, we hope to share with everyone the conceptualization & design process that entails every wedding project, our sources of inspiration and the many many trips around this island sourcing for materials & props etc! and bear with us too, the humps and bumps we might potentially suffer, haha! minimal i pray this time around ;)

as of now, we have yet to build upon the main ideas we came up with awhile ago. hopefully that will be fixed after our information session this 31st where our dear bride will make known her final requirements and the likes. time seems to be running faster these days and with event day in approximately six months time or so, we better get rollin' soon!
